I've always been either ahead of the trend (dark green hair!) or WAY far behind - this is the case with The Office. I didn't start watching it until I was well into my adulthood - partly thanks to Cousin Kerry. Partly thanks to streaming, and my friend Frank. I was behind on Podcasts. Now, they've become another familiarity in my routine. This meant that I was late to The Office Ladies Podcast too.
I recently just got to the episode where they unpack Business Ethics with Amy Ryan. I love Amy Ryan.
She was telling a story about the first time she went parachuting. What she said went something like this "I had to make a choice when the door opened on the airplane. I could be afraid of dying, or I could have the time of my life. I told myself: pick one." How often do we make these choices in our days - maybe it isn't a life or death situation, but how often do we choose and prioritize making the best of a situation, to have the time of our *own* life - whatever that make look like.
2 things can be true at the same time - Amy made a conscious choice to pick one of those feelings and roll with it. To acknowledge both, and roll with it.
I chuckled to myself, the tallest of all the cousins once said something like "You can do anything, sometimes only once." when we were talking about skydiving without a parachute. I think he was 16 at the time. I nearly peed my pants with laughter.
Sometimes life is like that though - your parachute doesn't deploy when it needs to - this is where you need to check your equipment and take care of yourself first before you jump out of a plane. Ya know what I'm sayin?
Whatever you choices you make today, I hope they bring you sunshine and warmth. Mine came with the consequence of a minor sunburn, so try to make better choices than me today okay? Wear your sunscreen, take your vitamins, and drink lots of water.
Now go get 'em tiger. Carpe that diem.
xx
